Tips for Improving Your Traditional Tuna Patties Recipe

Many people have just one or two ways in which they make tuna patties. Their procedure usually involves pulling out a few cans of tuna chunks, adding crushed onions, some salt and pepper prior to shaping and frying them. While this method and other similar ones are great if you don't know how to cook, if you want tuna patties that taste superior and show off your culinary skills you'll have to work harder than that. Below we look at a few things you can do to improve the taste and texture of your patties.
Add a touch of green chilies and green onions
If you want to add a bit of tang to your tuna patties try adding a green chili and a small onion into a mix meant for a dozen patties. This will work great even if you want to preset the patties with some salad and ketchup. The one thing you need to watch out for is the fact that too many chilies can ruin the patties. So, you'll want to add just enough to improve the taste especially for someone who likes spices.
Add just enough butter to fry
One of the biggest mistakes that people make is that they fry their tuna patties in oil. The problem with oil is that it tastes awful and when it soaks into the patties it can drown out the taste of the tuna meat that you use. The other mistake people make is that they use too much oil. The best thing to do is to just use a spoon full of butter and fry each patty in that. Every time the butter runs out add another spoon. Butter enhances the taste but is not recommended for people who have high blood pressure and heart conditions.
Leave the breadcrumbs and egg for last
Break an egg into a bowl and sprinkle some breadcrumbs into a plate. First dip the patties into the egg then roll it over the breadcrumbs so that they stick on. Never add the breadcrumbs to the patties several hours before you want to fry it because it loses its crunch when you fry. You can also experiment with using breadcrumbs and flour, the resulting patty will have a golden color and be crispy.
Bake before you fry
If you are using fresh over the counter tuna instead of canned tuna you'll want to bake the patties at 180C for around ten minutes prior to frying. The reason why this is a good idea is because it will cook the patties on the inside thoroughly, the frying process can then be brief and the resulting taste will be great. The only thing you should keep an eye out on is that the patties are not overcooked in the oven as this can ruin the nutritional value of the food.
By using any one or all of the tips above you can improve the taste of your tuna patties regardless of if you use fresh or canned tuna. There are numerous other things you can do to improve the taste and all that is needed is a bit of experimentation.
