Reasons To Use Custom Orthotics

A number of serious and painful conditions can be connected to poor footwear or problems with the feet. Medical professionals have studied these problems and have developed different orthotic devices over the last few decades to correct or minimize certain issues. The original concept was to make casts of the feet and to create insoles that compensate for the specific weight distribution and shape of each foot. Manufacturers eventually created generic versions of these devices for sale as insoles. Premade insoles do not have the same benefits as custom designs. There are several reasons why anyone suffering from foot pain should consider using custom orthotics.
Chronic Foot Or Back Problems
Premade insoles have become popular for minor foot problems such as sore heels from standing or temporary injuries. They are not always helpful when dealing with chronic foot or back pain. Problems like planar fasciitis, bone spurs and ilio-tibial band syndrome will all cause chronic pain while walking or standing every single day. The procedure that is used to generate the pattern for custom orthotics will identify the exact points of pressure caused by the natural variations in the foot and the chronic medical problem. The result is that the custom insole will provide immediate relief from pain and can stop some problems from developing serious complications.
Asymmetrical Foot Issues
Premade orthotics purchased over the counter are not appropriate for treating different foot problems that are asymmetrical. Asymmetrical issues occur because the right foot and the left foot have different needs. These problems could result from natural differences due to genetics, physical injuries or complications due to other medical conditions. Premade insoles are designs to provide same support for both feet. Custom insoles are almost always asymmetrical because every person has at least minor differences between the feet when standing and walking.
Intense Daily Activity
Over the counter insoles are relatively inexpensive. They are designed to last for a short time and to be replaced on a regular basis. Some insoles are only meant to last for a month before wearing down due to use. Premade insoles will not provide support for individuals who are performing intense physical activity each day such as competitive running or lifting heavy items at work. A major benefit of custom orthotics is that the insoles are designed to be very durable. They are often made from much higher quality materials than the less expensive premade inserts. Custom insoles can last for years.
Convenience
Premade insoles are intended to be convenient since they are so widely available. The reality is that they not a realistic solution for many people dealing with chronic foot pain or other injuries. Custom insoles are very convenient. They can be produced to fit into a specific type of shoe or to conform to any size foot. Some advanced manufacturers can create actual pairs of shoes that have custom orthotics integrated into the sole. This makes it unnecessary to insert the device into a shoe. Anyone with special needs can also have multiple types of custom insoles produced in order to provide the best support and comfort during different activities.
